IN MY SHOES
THEY CAN'T TAKE HER ALL
Hadar Orshalimy
Torn up ceiling
Smell of mold
Ground is shaking
As she sails to the unknown
They left her praying
It was all a bad dream
Those boys weren’t real
She was only fourteen
Window opens
A brand new land
It’s time to start working
Says the man
She lays there broken
They come one by one
Her tears fall frozen
And her heart grows numb
She’ll gather money
And buy her own house
She’ll get a real job in the city
Where she can survive
They took from her body
And took from her soul
But still she keeps standing
Straight and tall
'Cause they can’t take her all
Friday evening
Sundown's near
It’s her favorite moment of the entire week
The men are with their women
She’s on her own
Rubbing her belly
And hiding her glow
She’ll gather money
And buy her own house
She’ll get a real job in the city
Where she can survive
They took from her body
And took from her soul
And still she keeps standing
Straight and tall
'Cause they can’t take her all
Her body’s changing
And the men they know
She’s turning rounder than they’ve known before
She begs please don’t tell him
They’ll take her away
She has to run now
There’s no time to waste
She’ll gather money
And buy her own house
She’ll get a real job in the city
Where she can survive
'Cause they took from her body
And took from her soul
And still she keeps standing
Straight and tall
'Cause they can’t take her all
No they won't take her all
She won't let them take her all
